Haska Granadier Rattner was the older sister of Anna Spielberg. She lived in David-Horodok, where her husband was a minor government official. Also a relative of Bessie Kutnik, she was summoned by Bessie, when Bessie was a child, to deliver Bessie's younger brother. Bessie's mother had hidden the pregnancy because her mother-in-law, whom they lived with, disliked children and would have disapproved of another child. When Bessie was sent to bring the mid-wife, she refused to come because she had no knowledge of the pregancy. In desperation, Bessie went to Hashka, who responded and delivered the baby. Hashka and her husband Jacob were killed in the Holocaust. Photo taken in 1923.
